Here's What You Need To Know

Carpet Fiber Information
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN APPERANCE BETWEEN CARPET FIBERS

Nylon
Nylon is the most popular fiber mainly for its durability, not for its softness. Nylon fibers, which are dyed after production, have a good reputation in maintaining color, however most nylons will have a top coat stain guard applied and are not as resilient to staining as polyester.
Nylon is generally more expensive than polyester,
but cheaper than wool.

Polyester
Polyester is known for its softness, it also has excellent color clarity and retention. Polyester is easily cleaned and is more resistant to stains than nylon, however it does not hold up its fiber height under traffic and shifting weight as well as nylon. Polyester is luxurious, durable against abrasions, easy to clean.
Polyester is generally less expensive than wool and nylon.
Keep In Mind - Most customers out stain their carpet before out wearing it.

Solution Dyed
There's a new fiber of carpet called “Solution Dyed” or P.E.T polyester. This carpet is comparable with nylon in durability, and has a better stain protection than polyester. We have yet to have a customer stain the carpet and not be able to get the stain out, some have even used bleach or laundry detergent with absolutely no harm done to the carpet! By far, our best selling product for 2007.
Solution Dyed is generally priced in between Polyester and Nylon.

Wool
Wool's naturally crimped shape is the formation of millions of air pockets that act as insulation to help regulate room temperature and reduce energy bills. Also, is easy to clean and purifies your indoor air for up to 30 years from common contaminants by locking the contaminants deep in the core of the fiber. Soft, yet the most resilient, this fiber can withstand the toughest treatment and still bounce back looking brand new.

Carpet Cushion
Pad is a crucial part of your flooring
Every step you take creates hundreds of pounds of pressure per square inch in your floor covering. Carpet cushion helps alleviate that pressure.
The decrease in pressure helps make your carpet feel richer, thicker, and softer. Carpet cushion can significantly improve a carpet's sound absorption and improves its thermal insulation properties.
Dirt can grind down carpet fiber the way sandpaper wears down wood  and thus shortens carpet life. A Quality cushion makes cleaning more efficient because it raises carpet off the sub floor and provides an air space underneath, allowing the carpet to breathe.
When you vacuum, that space allows more air to come up through the carpet, carrying more dirt along with it. The result is more effective cleaning every time.

A quality carpet cushion helps decrease pile crushing, the acute compression of fibers in a high traffic area, particularly in hallways. The pad allows the carpet to maintain its pile height and stay looking new for much longer. Industry studies have shown that quality cushion can actually increase the useful life of carpet as much as 50%.
Also placing a quality cushion under your new carpet is often a condition of your warranty.
FAQ: Is The Thicker The Pad Better?
You might imagine that a thick carpet pad would give you the feeling of walking on clouds rather than a concrete slab, but you could be sadly mistaken.

Although carpet padding is responsible for a lot more than comfort, it should result in better insulation, softer impact, and stronger carpet.
You shouldn't scrimp on cushioning, since it largely determines the lifespan of your carpet, but neither should you always go for the thickest option.

Experts recommend never exceeding a thickness of 9/16"
A 10 pound pad will feel rock hard, the softest cushion available is 9/16"

Investing in slightly thicker carpet padding will be worth the money. This padding insulates the from cold and noise, as well as absorbs the impact that would otherwise go to the carpet.

Today's hardwood comes in more than 50 exotic and domestic species, spanning the spectrum of color, hardness, and price ranges.
No matter what the look you want to achieve, there are a variety of species to meet your needs.

Solid vs engineered
Engineered wood flooring is available in
pre-finished styles only.

Solid wood flooring is available in
pre-finished or sand and finished styles.

Solid Hardwood

One of the biggest pros to solid wood floors is the capability to refinish and re coat your floors over and over.
However, a major con, especially in Utah, is that solid wood will expand and contract leaving gaping in between boards. During the winter the moister leaves the wood, causing the gaping and when it starts to warm up, the moister returns and the gapping disappears.
They are very sensitive to moister and we don’t recommend installing solid wood on concrete or under ground levels also the only way to install is a nail down system.

Engineered

Pre-finished wood floors are becoming more and more popular and have huge advantages over solid wood floors. These floors can be used in almost any room in the home, can be installed over wooden sub floors or concrete slabs and most engineered floors can be nailed-down, stapled-down, glued-down or floated.
Engineered hardwood floors are constructed from several thin sheets of wood that are laminated
together to form one plank, making engineered Flooring the eco friendly choice and helping to reduce deforestation. It also has a natural tendency not to expand and contract.
Usually Pre-Finished flooring is the best buy and the smarter one.

Coordinating moldings are available for all styles and colors of Hardwood flooring you choose.

Stairnose

Create transitions for steps in your home. Buy the Overlap Stairnose for floors that have been installed using the floating installation method. Buy the Flush Stairnose for hardwood that has been nailed or glued down.

Reducer

When your hardwood flooring meets other floor coverings, such as vinyl, thin ceramic tile, or low-pile carpeting, use the Overlap Reducer for floors installed with the floating installation method, and the Flush Reducer on hardwood floors that have been nailed or glued down.

Threshold

Typically used at exterior doorways, threshold moldings transition between flooring and the doorway threshold. It can also be used as a transition from wood floors to different flooring surfaces when the reducer won't do, such as on high-pile carpet or thick ceramic tile.

T-Molding

T-Molding is commonly used in doorways to join two wood floors in adjoining rooms. It's also recommended when making transitions from a wood floor to another floor that is approximately the same height.
T-Molding is also used to provide expansion joints when a floor dimension exceeds a length of 40' or a width of 30'.

Quarter Round

Hardwood flooring must be installed with expansion space between the flooring and the wall because it naturally expands and contracts. This molding not only adds a finishing touch, but conceals the expansion space. It may also be used under cabinets where wall base won't fit or at the base of a stairway.

Wall Base

Give your room a dramatic finishing touch with borders at the base of your wall. Like the quarter round, this molding conceals the required expansion space between the wall and the hardwood flooring. It may also be used under cabinets as a cover for toe kicks.

Ceramic vs. Porcelain - The Difference

Ceramic and Porcelain tiles are not necessarily good vs. bad, it’s more appropriately said as
one is better in certain places than others.
Porcelain is better for high traffic areas, have high water contact, or have the possibility for extremely heavy items dropped.

Travertine

Travertine is one of the most popular stones used today because of its durability and unmatchable visual attraction.
It’s important to keep in mind that some types of travertine can be extremely varied. Travertine has the ability to coordinate with just about any décor. Honed travertine is a look that’s smoother, bringing a finer influence. Tumbled travertine is more for those looking for more of a rustic look, this offers an effect that no other natural stone can provide, giving a distinct feeling of old world REAL stone. You won't find a more beautiful surface.

Slate

Slate has many advantages. It looks great and has plenty to offer.  Slate's so versatile it can be displayed in a log-cabin rustic feel or look amazing in a sleek cosmopolitan-contemporary setting. Surprisingly, this magnificent stone can be relatively inexpensive. Slate is exceptionally dense and strong, acidic substances will not harm its surface and once sealed it remains practically maintenance free.
